Dear Friends of Healthy Communities
Over the last four years the Healthy Communities Fund has awarded over $150,000 to 60 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) support groups and projects in Queensland. But the Fund is running low and we desperately need your help to continue the fantastic work that it has achieved.
Building the LGBT community through funding groups/projects has helped LGBT people connect with each other in meaningful ways and help reduce social isolation and facilitate friendships. We have linked people to services to improve the health and wellbeing of our community and help fight HIV infection. We also promote the visibility of LGBT people across Queensland which begins to tackle homophobia. In different ways, all these efforts improve our health and wellbeing and counter some of the factors that exacerbate our communities' mental health issues and suicide rates.
We were able to set up the Fund through the rental income received on a previously owned property, but we no longer own that property and don't have that income. The Fund is extremely low with only enough money left for one more round and if we don't receive community support and donations, it will close!
A brief outline of some of the recipients is here to show you the great work that has been achieved with so little. If the Fund closed, where would these LGBT groups/projects find money? We're not sure as it's hard enough for Healthy Communities, a registered charity to find grants for important LGBT health and wellbeing projects. It's likely that these groups/projects will have little assistance and the great work that we've been proud to support in the last four years could come to a standstill. Please donate to the Fund to stop this from happening.
You can assist us continue to support LGBT Queenslanders through the simple act of making a donation at healthycommunities.org.au/donation or by using the donation form below or call 1800 177 434. During this time of giving, please remember your LGBT family. Wishing you a gay festive season.
Yours sincerely
